The Reading Festival is an annual music festival. The Reading Festival is held at Little John’s Farm on Richfield Avenue in central Reading, near the Caversham Bridge. The Reading Festival is the worlds most popular and old music festival which still exists. In 2011, the capacity of the Reading site was 87,000. This was an increase of several thousand on previous years.

The Reading Festival originates from the National Jazz Festival, which was conceived by Harold Pendleton (founder of the Marquee Club in London) and was first held at Richmond Athletic Ground in 1961. This festival, in turn, took inspiration from events held in America. Throughout its first decade the festival changed names and moved around sites several times, being held at Windsor Racecourse, Kempton Park and Plumpton , before reaching its permanent home at Reading in 1971.

In November 2007, the organisers welcomed “Reading Festival reclaiming its prestigious name” when the sponsored title was abolished after 9 years. The Reading and Leads Festivals were known officially as the “Carling weekend” until partying ways with their sponsor Carling in November 2007. There were various musical phases in Reading Festival, as detailed below; in the twin-site era, rock alternative, indie, punk and metal have tended to dominate.

V Festival is a music festival held in England during the penultimate weekend in August. It is held every year at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire. The V Festival is held at two parks simultaneously which share the same bill; artists perform at one location on Saturday and then swap on Sunday.

The concept for V came in 1996 when Pulp’s front man Jarvis Cocker declare that he would love to play two outdoor venues in two days. Pulp’s promoters got together and came up with the idea of putting the music performance into Victoria Park Warrington and Hylands Park Chelmsford giving fans in both the North and South a chance to see the band. Then came the idea of adding more bands to the bill, putting on a second stage and letting people camp for the weekend. In the end Victoria Park was just too small for 3 stages and camping. So in August 1996 there was one day of artists in Victoria Park and 2 days at Hylands Park with camping. The northern leg of V97 was switched to Temple Newsam, Leeds to provide room for camping and three stages. In 1999 the Northern leg of the festival was moved to Weston Park in Staffordshire, and has remained there since.

In the Past it had been held at Temple Newsam in Leeds, before being replaced by Carling’s Leeds Festival. Originally, the festival took the name of the current year, with the first festival being named “V96″. Since 2003 it has been known as simply the V Festival. Its weekend format, low queuing times and professional organisation have given it a loyal audience. The festival sold out in record time in 2006. The first V festival took place on Saturday August 17 and Sunday August 18, 1996, and had two stages and one tent.

Leeds Festival is music festival that takes place in Leeds in England annualy. The Leeds event is held in Bramham Park, near Wetherby, the grounds of an historic house. In 2011, the capacity of the Reading site was 87,000 and the Leeds site was 75,000.This was an increase of several thousand on previous years. The Leeds Festival is also very historic like Reading.

The festivals are run by Festival Republic, which was divested from Mean Fiddler Music Group. For promotional purposes during 1998-2007 they were known as the Carling Weekend: Reading and the Carling Weekend: Leeds. Unsurprisingly, these titles were seldom used when not required, although NME did so as part of its involvement. Leeds Festival directed by Mean Fidler director of festivals, Melvin Benn is one of the most powerful man in UK festival industry with Glastonbury, Homelands and Reading/Leads all part of his portfolio of responsibility.

In 1984 and 1985, the Conservative Party-led local council effectively banned the festival by reclaiming the festival site for ‘development’ and refusing to grant licenses for any alternative sites in the Reading area. The future of the festival looked in doubt at this point. However, things were to improve from 1992 onwards as the festival broadened its musical policy and attendances gradually increased.

Rumours suggest that at Leeds Festival 2012, Muse, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Strokes or My Chemical Romance could headline the event, with many more acts rumoured. My Chemical Romance, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, The Stroke and Muse are all contenders to perform at the Leeds Festival. Tickets will go on sale on 21st March. The UK’s radio group 95-106 Capital FM has announced that the  Summertime Ball is back this summer and Starbucks Frappuccino® will be headline sponsor. Starbucks has signed a six-figure deal with Global Radio to be the main sponsor to promote its Frappuccino range.

The coffee chain will replace Asos.com, the online fashion retailer, as headline backer of the Global Radio station’s “Summertime Ball” Event.  The acts for 2011’s gig have not yet been announced but Last year’s event featured Rihanna, Usher and Cheryl Cole at Wembley Stadium. V Festival 2011 takes place in Chelmsford and Staffordshire over the weekend of August 20-21.  V Festival might be commercial but it remains one of the country’s largest music events. Organisers have confirmed a number of appearances by iconic artists. Eminem and Arctic Monkeys will headline the festival, with Razorlight, Status and The Script also on the bill. The line up also includes British rapper Tinie Tempah, Chase and Status, Jessie J and The Wombats, Manic Street Preachers, Scouting For Girls, N-Dubz, Ellie Goulding, Squeeze, The Saturdays, Pendulum, Primal Scream, Ellie Goulding and Mark Ronson.

Organisers said they were trying to make the festival more luxurious this year by setting up ready-built yurts and pop-up hotel rooms for accommodation. Tickets for the twin festivals at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire will go on sale this Friday, March 4, at 9am.

T In The Park tickets go on sale this Friday for the 2011 edition of the Scottish festival. The three headliners are: Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys and Coldplay. T In The Park 2011 takes place at Balado Airfield near Kinross, Scotland from Thursday 7th July – Sunday 10th July.

T in the park lineup is Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Arctic Monkeys will headline this year’s T In The Park. DF Concerts and founding partner Tennent’s Lager announced the headliners as well as a host of other acts at The Lighthouse in Glasgow. Other artists and bands that will take to the stage in July include Blink-182, The Script, Pulp, Brandon Flowers, Blondie, Ke$ha and The Saturdays, as well as recent Brit award winners Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Jessie J.

The Australian dance-metallers will headline the last night of the SW4 festival on August 28. SW4 runs on the same weekend as the Reading And Leeds Festivals, giving credence to rumours that Pendulum could play a slot at the events. In the coming weeks, the line-up will be gradually revealed.

Last year the event took over Clapham Common for a whole weekend for the first time. The dance festival, which is in its second year, will run from August 27–28 on London‘s Clapham Common and will feature two exclusive London headliners. US pop act Black Eyed Peas will be the Friday night headliners at this year’s Wireless festival in London’s Hyde Park, organisers have announced. Plan B, Tinie Tempah and Example have also been announced for the Friday, while Chase and Status, Aphex Twin, Chromeo and Janelle Monae from VF’s Ones To Watch list have also been added on the Saturday. Organisers said Wireless would be Black Eyed Peas’ only UK festival appearance.
