The WBA light-welterweight champion will defend his title against undefeated Paul McCloskey at the MEN Arena, April 16. McCloskey’s promoter Eddie Hearn is convinced that his man will provide a serious threat to Khan, who has lost just one of his 25 fights. The Northern Irish southpaw will head into the contest as a clear underdog, but McCloskey has taken confidence from Khan’s last fight against Marcos Maidana in November.

The 24-year-old Khan claims “this is a matchup the British public wants to see.”  Bradford’s former world champion Junior Witter was a strong candidate, but Team Khan finally managed to agree a deal with McCloskey. Khan plans to fight Tim Bradley in a unification clash this summer, provided the McCloskey fight holds no surprises.

The showdown, for David Haye’s WBA belt, will be the Londoner’s second title defence after he knocked out American John Ruiz in the ninth round in April 2010. As many people expected he would, World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) announced his fight earlier today against 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s) for a bout that will be taking place on November 13th, the same day at the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito clash.

DAVID Haye has vowed to banish Audley Harrison from Britain by “violating” and “embarrassing” his bitter enemy into retirement on November 13.  Harrison had this to say about Haye: “If David Haye thinks I’ve taken this fight strictly for a payday, he is in for a rude awakening.”

Kevin Mitchell will meet Australian Michael Katsidis for the World Boxing Organisation lightweight title in London in May after promoter Frank Warren won the purse bids on Tuesday to stage the contest. It is believed that Warren bid $515,000 (£345,000) to win the purse bids which will afford the 25 year-old the opportunity of home advantage and the prospect of fighting Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez for the full WBO title later in the year.

The fight is for the full version of the title as Mitchell is the No1 contender and the champion, Juan Manuel Márquez, has been pursuing a fight with Ricky Hatton at light-welterweight. It will probably take place at the O2 Arena or Upton Park, home of Mitchell’s football team, West Ham United, and could draw more than 30,000 fans.

The 25-year-old Mitchell is unbeaten in 31 fights and in the form of his life, having seen off Amir Khan’s Colombian conqueror Breidis Prescott on points then knocking out Prescott’s compatriot Ignacio Mendoza in the second round in his last fight, three weeks ago.

Tickets are now on sale for Kevin Mitchell’s historic world lightweight title clash against Michael Katsidis at West Ham United’s world famous Boleyn Ground on Saturday 15th May. ‘Hammer Time’ is set to be the sporting event of the summer as Mitchell aims to be crowned world champion at the ground where football legends Bobby Moore and Sir Geoff Hurst plied their trade.
