At the weekend The Daily Star claimed that this series of The X Factor will be the last in the UK as Simon Cowell focuses his attentions on the US. The show will be launched Stateside in 2011 with Simon in charge and on the panel.
Scherzinger impressed Cowell when she stood in for Cheryl during the UK X Factor auditions recently (while she was hospitalised with malaria).
An insider told the paper that Nicole is now favourite to become a judge when the show launches in 2011. “Nicole blew Simon away,” they said.
“Her appearance was always being viewed as an ‘audition’ for X Factor US, but no one expected her to be quite as good as she was.”
However a spokesman for the show told the BBC: “The X Factor is back on ITV1 this autumn, and we’re looking forward to it returning in 2011.”
