Her Majesty to make first visit since Virginia Wade’s golden triumph in 1977.
This year’s Championship begins on June 21 and it is anticipated the British monarch will be in attendance at Centre Court on the first Thursday, June 24.
It would mark the Queen’s first visit to SW19 since the year of her Silver Jubilee in 1977, when Britain’s Virginia Wade won the women’s singles title.

The Wimbledon tennis tournament has appointed its first poet-in-residence
Wimbledon can claim another first in the battle of Grand Slam oneupmanship after appointing an official poet for the Championships.. Matt Harvey will be holding court with a poem each day throughout the fortnight of tennis tournament which takes place next month. Harvey – who has already written his first poem as Championships Poet 2010, called Grandest of Slams – said he was thrilled but nervous at his appointment.
The poems will be available online and there will be audio podcasts — featuring Harvey reading his latest verses and sharing behind-the-scenes observations on the Wimbledon and Poetry Trust websites.
While Wimbledon is undoubtedly one of our most popular events, Companies have been bowled over by the response. Overall bookings also shot up from 2009, with only limited packages now available for this summer’s Grand Slam.
